Residency Programs

Duke Regional Hospital has been training outstanding PGY1 residents for over 15 years. We implemented a PGY2 Internal Medicine Pharmacy Residency in 2016. We are committed to ensuring the very best training for our residents within the community teaching hospital setting. In addition to our institution, our residents also have the option to complete training within the larger Duke University Health System. We strive to meet the interests of our residents by providing a tailored and individual plan to ensure their professional and personal success. Our team embraces the community hospital feel, and we are passionate about the care we provide to our patients. Duke Regional Hospital has an affiliation agreement with Campbell University College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences (CPHS) to provide training for their pharmacy students, as well as to offer academic opportunities for our pharmacy residents.

During training experiences, we provide opportunities for the resident to continue the development of their clinical competencies, professional confidence, leadership, and professional skills. Residents are delegated clinical responsibilities under the guidance of a residency preceptor to develop practice skills. They are given teaching and precepting responsibilities to further develop communication skills and abilities as a teacher and clinical educator. They participate in ongoing research and service activities to further develop problem-solving skills and the ability to work with others.

Early Commitment

The Duke Regional PGY2 Internal Medicine Pharmacy Residency Program incorporates an early commitment process, whereby the position for the PGY2 Internal Medicine pharmacy residency program can be committed to a current PGY1 resident at Duke Regional Hospital, Duke Raleigh Hospital, or Duke University Hospital in advance of the matching process.
